Maia trotted swiftly across the ground, ears perked forward and listening for any sounds of other wolves. Her tail swished low behind her and the occasional bits of tall grass slapped her legs and brushed along her belly. A muzzle-height flower brushed her nose and she sneezed, but she continued on at the same pace.
I'm almost there! she thought, continuing to race forward. Almost to a new start, freedom from my past, and maybe.... Maybe even happiness.
It was almost too much to hope, to be free of her past. To be happy. Still, she pushed forward, racing hope. If she ran fast enough, maybe she'd be able to beat her bad luck. A wolfish grin appeared on her face and she shook her head, black-tipped ears flopping a bit with the motion.
By the time Maia reached the border, all doubts had left her. She slowed to a halt, surveying the area around her, before making a decision. She would try her luck here, and if it didn't work out.... Well, she'd just try somewhere else.
Continuing forward, Maia walked right up to the forested border, sitting back on her haunches. She pondered the space in front of her for a moment, taking in the shadowed pattern the trees overhead made on the ground. Making her decision, she tipped her head back, letting out a long, sorrowful howl. The howl hung in the air, like a question waiting for an answer.

Maia watched the black wolf approach her, brown eyes carefully following the other's movements, as she schooled her face into a blank mask. One of the first lessons she had learned since setting out on her own was not to show any emotion, at least not on first meeting. She had been burned before, for opening up to quickly. One particular instance leapt to mind, set at a border much like this one. She had been weak from hunger, having not mastered the hunt before being cast out from her pack, and had stumbled across a small pack. In desperate need of help and companionship, she had sought to join the other wolves, only to narrowly escape becoming dinner. She shivered at the memory, quickly returning to her previous state of blankness.
Upon the Alphess' introduction, she lowered herself to the ground, respectfully. Her grey-black ears splayed to the sides, almost sadly. This position was all too familiar to her. She hoped the results would be different this time.
"My name is Maia," she replied after a moment's pause, deciding she'd better answer before the female in front of her took her silence as a threat. "I have been wandering for a long time, and have come to seek acceptance into your pack."
Maia bowed her head respectfully, watching Toorima for any sign of acceptance.... Or hostility. She sat stock-still, waiting tensely for a response from the Alphess.

Toorima watched the wolf carefully, watching for any signs of Guardian. The femme was still, maybe tense to a point, her body lowered in respect, a bit more than she normally was given at the borders of her land. Maybe all the extra caution was from previous disasters the vix' had experienced at another lands' borders. Well, it wasn't like she 'commanded' it all the time but oh well. After her own introduction and inquiry, the rogue responded with her name and her purpose, exactly what was expected of her. This was proving that she most likely wasn't of Guardian Forests nature, and if she was, she was doing a good job of hiding it. Lowering her own tail just a little bit, it now just about level with her back, she told the fatale without words that she could rise a little bit, not quite hug the ground so closely. Toorima wasn't overly fond of extreme respect all the time. Still watching Maia with her two-toned stare, but mostly her golden eye for the sheer fact that it could see better. An obvious reason of course. Ever since she fought Orin, she constantly found herself focusing on things with that eye. Bleh. "I have been wandering for a long time, and have come to seek acceptance into your pack." was her answer to 'what business had she here'. It was what most wolves came here lookin' for, a pack and a place to live. Average. "You are accepted into the Yamamori pack as a Subordinate for the time being." the Alphess said, not wanting to waste any time. "If you live here, you should be aware of the war with the enemy pack, just watch out for suspicious wolves. I'll be able to elaborate at a later date." she said, sort of rambling. She didn't want to say a whole lot for the fact that there could possibly be spies watching her every move. Quietly, she awaited the femme's reaction to this.... edit: my post before this one is gone ;-;
