The peaceful forest floor was interrupted by a small, lithe tawny wolf. She padded through the trees, crushing plantlife beneath her paws as she walked.
Kurai was wary. She had smelled wolves, and didn't know what to think yet. She wasn't sure if she wanted to join a pack or not. She wanted to want to join, if that made any sense, but she didn't want her trust betrayed again.
I'm getting cliche.
Kurai glanced up, her plumed tawny tail held up like a banner. She let out a soft, short bark. Her ears twitched as the call came back to her, ringing throughout the silent forest.
She sat down and waited.

beware of bad post. ><;
She was just roaming, strolling around absentmindedly, looking at all the trees and such. It really wasn't that thrilling but it managed to pass the time. The snow was all over everything. It'd been worse a few weeks ago, now it was beginning to get a little better, not snowing quite as much and what was left was old, frozen snow that had neglected to melt in the afternoon sun. It still wasn't her favorite season at all. Winter made her a stressed out mess that didn't like to think things through. Not all too good for an Alphess. Plus, all the white snow contrasted with her black fur. Ack, just adding to the list of reasons to loathe the winter months. Atleast they were coming to an end soon.
A bark. It wasn't that far away. It wasn't a familiar sounding vocalization so she decided to seek it out. Turning her embarks toward that direction, she began to lift her tail and head, proclaiming her rank to any possible rogues. Most of them weren't hostile but one could never be too careful around those kind of wolves. It all came into a view. There was another wolf, just as she'd suspected, one she'd never seen before, so it must've wanted to the join the Yamamori cadre, why else would a lone wolf be here anyway? Unless of course, they wanted trouble.
Stopping mere meters away from the vixen, the lucid Alphess watched her with her good eye, the left one, the one that still shone in gold, unlike the hazy piece of crap that was the other orb. It barely even saw anymore, it was useless, all thanks to Orin. "Hello. I'm Toorima, Alphess of the Yamamori packlands." she said flatly. After this, the wolf in question'd usually respond without much trouble then the border questionnaire would commence

((your post is better than mine...))
Kurai said with her ears pricked forwards. This jet-black wolf intrigued her. Her amber eyes took in the other wolf's appearance, from her hazy blue eye to the way she held herself. She could tell this wolf was an Alphess of her kind, so she dipped her head respectfully.
"My name is Kurai," she said. She didn't think her normal way of greeting (popping out of seemingly nowhere and shouting "HI! I'M KURAI!") would be much use here. The new wolf was much bigger than Kurai was; Kurai could tell that she could do some serious damage.
She sniffed, curious. The Alphess had a completely different scent from one she'd ever smelled before. She swished her tail lightly and wondered what was coming next.

Toorima shifted her weight to the left a little bit, leaning more to that side, although it really wasn't visibly noticeable. She was racking up the peculiar habits. Most wolves didn't notice them but whenever she did them, she sure as hell knew. One was the whole 'left side' deal, leaning that way, seeing with that eye, everything. She was head-shy too, things touching her face without her full and total consent made her made. This was extremely evident when she fought, everytime teeth or claws came anywhere near her face, it wasn't pretty.
"My name is Kurai" said the wolf, atleast now she knew her name and didn't have to constantly refer to her as 'the rogue' or something along those particular lines. "So Kurai, I assume you're here looking for a pack?" the femme questioned, letting a wry little smile onto her features. This wolf's shown respect so there really wasn't a dire need to play the 'big bad Alpha' role right now. It was nice having an authority over wolves, but it got old after a while, them constantly watching themselves around your presence. Border respect was fine, just the constant 'bowing at her mitts' was annoying. She'd asked an obvious question, and she knew it well. That was why wolves came to the borders, to join packs. Unless they were enemies of course. Kurai didn't smell nor act like a Guardian Forest wolf so the Phantom Thief assumed her to be safe for now.

"Of course," Kurai said, a faint grin on her face. "I assume you already knew that, though." She scrutinized Toorima, relieved that she wasn't one of the 'I demand you to quiver at my paws' type-- she'd have enough of those in her life.
Kurai had seen the slight shifting of weight, but she didn't really pay much attention to it. She tilted her head to the side and side, "Is there anything else you wish to know?" she asked.

"I assume you already knew that, though." Toorima grinned a bit; Of course she'd known, wolves just don't pass by to converse about what they did this afternoon, what they ate yesterday. Well, if they did, that'd be really weird. Just how she wanted to spend her time, small talk with rogue wolves. She wasn't exactly all that thrilled with talking to so many nomadic wolves as it was, guess she needed to stop being a pack hoard and give out of ranks, lighten the work load for her, but the 'handing out ranks' is what she hated. See? Now her own mind is wandering away from what she's supposed to be doing. Mrr.
"Is there anything else you wish to know?" Well, guess Kurai was making it easier for her then, prompting the questions first, this particular one anyway. "Just speak of some of your skills and you may be a subordinate. Can't be having incompetent wolves here, especially with enemies afoot." Although she honestly doubted Kurai to be a useless heap of wolf-flesh, she just added the last part for the sake of talking herself. She was kind of being a bit weird lately, normally the femme wasn't such a chatter-box. Strange..

Kurai turned her head and gave her shoulder a quick lick. "I'm fast," she said. "That's my most obvious talent, but I'm not useless when it comes to hunting or fighting, either. I don't like to sit around and do nothing."
Kurai dug her paws into the earth. She was holding something back, and she guessed that Toorima would most likely be able to tell. Her tail stirred up the undergrowth as she mused.
Should I mention Hikari?

She nodded, a bit while the wolfess spoke, more once she was done. Kurai said she was fast, which was an assest when fighting and hunting, things of that nature. "Accepted" she said. The ebony femme kept her eyes on Kurai, debating whether or not to just up and leave now or linger around for further questioning. Well, the least she could do was offer the propect of further questions, mostly because she felt like she'd left something about, or possibly that Kurai had more to tell. Either way, she spoke with "Any further questions before I leave you?"
Most of the time, wolves didn't have anything more to say, eager to get into their new home, maybe stake out a den for themselves and explore to get the lay of the land. Maybe Kurai would be different and actually have something spare to speak of

Compared to my posts, yours are extraordinary >.<
Kurai shifted, slightly uncomfortable. She's never voluntarily shared what she was about to say with anyone before-- everyone else had seen it with their own eyes. She wasn't sure how Toorima would take it. Maybe she wouldn't care, but Kurai wasn't sure.
"It's not a question, exactly," she muttered. "It's more of a... I don't know, confession, maybe. Most of the time I'm hyper, and I won't hurt anybody unless they want to hurt me, or they're prey. But sometimes I, I don't know, snap." She allowed herself a slight grin. "They call me Hikari when this happens-- ironic, I know. But it's like I become a different person, and I want to kill. I get really... dark. I don't want to make a big deal out of it and sound like oh, my God, I have such a tragic past or something... but I thought you should know."
She flexed her claws, awaiting Toorima's reaction.

^^;
She sunk back, wondering, a confession? That was certainly different. Most wolves, even if they didn't have anything to confess, didn't do it, especially to a wolf they'd just met, Alpha or not. Oh well, with interests perked, she listened contently. "Most of the time I'm hyper, and I won't hurt anybody unless they want to hurt me, or they're prey. But sometimes I, I don't know, snap." Snapping? That was quite interesting, maybe a slight flicker of a multidimensional personality going on there but she hadn't witnessed this 'snapping' first hand so couldn't be one to judge.
"They call me Hikari when this happens-- ironic, I know. But it's like I become a different person, and I want to kill. I get really... dark. I don't want to make a big deal out of it and sound like oh, my God, I have such a tragic past or something... but I thought you should know." Hikari? Japanese word for light correct? She was pretty sure that was correct, although it'd been a while since she'd had to speak any real Japanese aside from her name, although she was still very able to recognize it, like in a few certain wolves' names. Well, if it did mean "light" then it was certainly ironic, if she got 'dark' when this happens.
Guess she was going to be understanding of this, being slightly guilty of the five-sided personality. At least Kurai was accepting enough of her temperament to 'warn' others of it, something that she herself most likely would not be doing, trusted wolf or not, they'd have to find it out on their own. Although she was able to keep it under wraps most of the time, it did find a way to slither out sometimes, a haunting reminder of what she was supposed to be, what a wolf of her heritage was supposed to be. Well, it didn't quite go as planned.
She nodded; "Interesting, we'll head your 'warning' of sorts, atleast I will anyway, but if 'Hikari' comes after me, I'll be sure to give it a swift kick. But really, I do thank you for the warning, nice to know just incase it does decide to happen. " she shrugged, added a bit of a laugh at the end, so to not sound like a complete monster, unsure of how to say that without sounded all 'rawr' and such. Well, it was true, if a wolf came after her being completely off and strange, she wouldn't hesitate. Again she waited.

A wave of relief swept through Kurai. "If 'Hikari' comes after me, I'll be sure to give it a swift kick," Toorima had said. "By all means, do so," Kurai said gratefully. "Sometimes a hard enough kick gets my own personality back. Hikari doesn't come out too often-- I just figured a warning in advance was needed."
Her ears twitched. She was glad Toorima had given such a sensible response. No worries about a bad pack leader there.
Sorry for the short post, I couldn't think of anything else to say >.<

"Sometimes a hard enough kick gets my own personality back. Hikari doesn't come out too often-- I just figured a warning in advance was needed." Kurai had said, in which the ebony vixen nodded. Well, atleast Kurai hadn't taken what she'd said the completely wrong direction and gotten all mad. Guess it was a mutual thing, Toorima hadn't chased her off at the first mention of the 'other personality' and she was accepting of what she'd said. Enough of that anyway.
This encounter was coming to a close; Kurai was a newly made Yamamori subordinate so there really wasn't anything left to do as of now. "Well, I guess I'll be on my way. If you ever need anything, just look for me or something, I'm usually around. You may roam the lands to your heart's content." she said with a wry grin before turning and trotting off into the woods, off to whatever awaited her.
